McAuley Community Services for Women - Budget Response

McAuley Community Services for Women today welcomed initiatives announced in the Labour Government’s budget to support women experiencing family violence.

Jocelyn Bignold, CEO, said the $80,000 safety audit of Magistrates’ Courts was important to keep courts safe.

“The women we support will be greatly benefited by the investment into free legal assistance, particularly women from diverse backgrounds,” she said. While the injection of $40.3 million for early intervention projects to reduce homelessness was important, she said real investment was required to keep women and their children safe at home.

“Homelessness should never be the safer option,” she said.

McAuley Community Services for Women runs Victoria’s only accessible 24/7 safe house as well as a refuge and homelessness program for women and children.
