Top Chef Joins High Tea Appeal

Celebrity chef Nicky Riemer, co-owner of the one-hatted restaurant Union Dining, is rolling up her sleeves for McAuley Community Services for Women’s High Tea appeal.

She is the latest person to come on board to help raise money to keep women and children safe.

Nicky and her business partner at Union Dining, Adam Cash, will donate a percentage of every Mother’s Day luncheon, as well as spreading the word about the #HighTeaAppeal.

“We all can do something to stem the tide of family violence and homelessness,” Nicky said.

“For myself, Adam and the team at Union Dining, the chance to be involved in something which encourages people to bake, make and create as well as raise money for an important issue made a great deal of common and business sense.”

Nicky Riemer has been cooking professionally for more than 20 years. She is also an amateur florist, the person behind the fantastic blooms which are a centerpiece of the Richmond restaurant.

Soon into her apprenticeship Nicky joined the team at the acclaimed restaurant Stephanie’s in Hawthorn under the guidance of Stephanie Alexander. In 1997 Nicky went on to open Stephanie’s Richmond Hill Cafe & Larder, as her head chef. It was working with Stephanie that cemented Nicky’s passion for seasonality and locally sourced produce.

She has spent time in Hong Kong, as well as working alongside other Australian female chefs like Karen Martini and Cath Claringbold.

She enjoys mentoring young female chefs, “Maybe there are women out there who feel they need to rely on somebody, but I’m big on encouraging young women to push themselves to be who they want to be.”
