Victorian Government: Integrated Family Violence System 2006 -2009

The Department of Human Services new approach to family violence is about community services including specialist family violence services, and police and justice services working together to provide a better service to victims of family violence and reduce the incidence of family violence.

Shekinah Homeless Services Inc

Shekinah Homeless Services Inc was established by Catholic Homeless services in 1999 with a view to improving collaboration between services and offering a continuum of care to the homeless people amongst whom they work.

Shekinah agencies work collaboratively together through action, discussion and networking for the benefit of people who are homeless, especially those who are the most marginalised. Their philosphical statement outlines that Shekinah Homeless Services Inc supports volunteers which provides an opportunity for community participation that address important social and environmental needs. Volunteers can bring a different perspective and can provide a special and unique role in caring for the guests and residents.

Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service

Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service has been working with people experiencing disadvantage and hardship for over thirty years. The organisation has a strong focus on women and girls.

McAuley Community Services for Women recently partnered with Good Shepherd Youth & Family Service to produce a new model to improve the service system for supporting women and their children fleeing family violence.

"Filling The Gap: Integrated Post Crisis Response for Women Who Have Experienced Family Violence" makes recommendations to address a number of long-standing gaps in existing service provisions which make it harder for many women leaving situations of violence to rebuild their lives.

It was developed in consultation with a reference group comprising a range of key sector stakeholders as well as policy and practice experts in the field of family violence.

We released the model for comment from the family violence sector in July. We now look forward to drawing upon its recommendations to help create momentum for change.
