16 Days Against Violence Campaign Day 1

One in four Australian women has experienced violence from an intimate partner, and at least 500,000 children have witnessed violence.

This year, from today, November 25 for 16 days, McAuley Community Services for Women will take part in the United Nations’ campaign to end violence against women.

Prevention is the 2015 theme and, as our CEO Jocelyn Bignold says: “Violence is not inevitable. It can be prevented. There is, however, no vaccine, medication or cure. There is no one single reason for why it happens.”

Our submission to the Royal Commission into Family Violence sets out 12 recommendations, which will form the basis of our 16 days campaign.

Over the next 16 days, we will also profile some of our supporters who are all working, in their own way, to end violence and bring about change.
