AIG give of their time

‘We all loved the experience, and learnt so much about the real issues being faced and how McAuley’s services are making a difference’ – that was some of the feedback after employees from leading multinational insurance organisation, Americian Insurance Group (AIG) gave of their time to volunteer at McAuley House.

AIG has more than 90 million customers around the globe, but is keen to also contribute as a good corporate citizen, and has established a Global Volunteer Month to give back to the community.

Five AIG team members arrived ready to roll their sleeves up. They were shown through McAuley House and heard fromstaff about our approach. They soon set to work in the kitchen, donning aprons, picking herbs and vegetables from the rooftop garden, and busying themselves in the preparation of meals for our community lunch. They were impressed by the facilities, and had fun along the way.

‘It was a very valuable and insightful experience for us,’ said AIG’s Human Resources Manager Sharon-Louise Reid. ‘It was great to help in the kitchen while learning about the issues the women face, particularly with mental health and rehabilitation. We could see firsthand the services and programs on offer, and chatting over lunch was the perfect way to network and share stories. Real challenges, true stories and inspiring progress!’
