Friendship blossoms in the McAuley House garden

For Anne Smithies, gardening is more than just a hobby. For the past three years she has been volunteering at McAuley House, spending time in the garden with residents and teaching them in group classes.

"Gardening has always been a love of mine, but I get so much enjoyment when sharing it with the women at McAuley House," says Anne.

"There are many wonderful things about gardening. Being in a beautiful space instantly makes you feel better. It's also a wonderful way to relax and be creative."

"Plus, you can enjoy the instant success of watching the seed you planted grow day by day."

"Interacting with the women is the best part of my volunteer work at McAuley House. It's a fantastic way to get to know everyone and I have made many new friendships," says Anne.
