On The Fifth Day of Christmas My Wish Came True

ON the fifth day of Christmas, my wish came true for a carol concert

In the days before Christmas, staff, volunteers and the women at McAuley House will create their own McAuley House carol concert.

The carols will be led by three McAuley House women, who are all part of the No Excuses Choir which performed recently. They will sing with Christina Green, a music therapist and recreation worker at McAuley House.

Carols will be followed by gift giving and some afternoon tea. The carols are a time of joy at McAuley House and some women, who are now living independently, return for the celebration.

Also this week a Christmas play is being performed by residents, Women in Community, and Jennifer Monk, founder of Girls Act Good, who donated all proceeds of their show, “A Christmas Tale”, to McAuley House in 2014. She is now back at the house working with three talented women devising a mini theoretical performance called, “All I want for Christmas” to perform for the community.

The women wrote the play, and have created the performance with Jennifer.

Leonie Lawrence, Recreation Worker at McAuley House, said the women have had a great time creating the play and rehearsing, and said there has been much laughter and enthusiasm.

“They have a real sense of achievement with what they have created and by being able to entertain the other residents and Women in Community, with their Christmas cheer,” Leonie said.
