OUR WORK

Homelessness

McAuley House provides a place for rest, recovery and reconnection for women who have been homeless.

As well as experiencing homelessness, many of the women supported at McAuley House have had long histories of trauma, family violence and mental illness. Their journey can only start when they have had a chance to rest and recover.

McAuley House in Footscray supports up to 25 women. In 2019 McAuley House Ballarat opened its doors, accommodating seven women.

Both buildings are designed to promote the dignity and wellbeing of the women who live there.

44% of requests for support from homeless services are because of family violence.

There has been an 8.3% increase in women's homelessness over the past five years.

99 requests per day for homelessness support are unable to be met.

McAuley Houses offer women a safe community in which to live while they regain their health and wellbeing.

We support women to rebuild their family and community connections, develop their independent living skills, and begin their journey towards independence.

Social inclusion

What's it all about?

Many women living at McAuley House have typically survived, and continue to overcome, many challenging life events. Social connections and developing new skills are an important part of getting their lives back on track after the trauma of homelessness.
